My #NSale Purchases & Sizing Tips

Last week when #NSale early access opened I thought it would be fun to take you along during my shopping trip via Snapchat (username: stylemetactical). It was something new for me to try and I really enjoyed engaging with you guys using a different form of social media. I got several questions regarding sizes of items I was snapping so I thought I would recap what I bought along with some sizing tips.

Today is the perfect time to do this recap because the sale just opened up for general access.  So why not kick off the weekend with a little shopping?!

I think there is a wide variety of items in this years #NSale from essential items to fun items to help accentuate your current wardrobe. In my opinion the higher-end designer items weren't as good as they have been in the past. However, between the moderate & contemporary designers, there is a good selection. It also seemed like the prices were even lower on some items than I expected or have experienced in past sales. And I can't complain about that.

Below are some of the items I snapped and some items that I also bought online. I seriously can't wait for fall to start breaking out some of these pieces. If fall sounds too far away, I also rounded up 10 items from the #NSale you can wear now.

Also, I've incldued all my #NSale posts and picks as part of the 'Shop' section of the site.

NSaleSizingTips

Blank NYC 'Morning' Suede Moto Jacket {Sale:$124.90 | After Sale: $188.00 | Size: Small} I tried the medium on and it was too boxy. This is probably one the best deals in the sale. The suede is so buttery soft. The body of the jacket hits right at the waist and the sleeve length is perfect. Not too short, not too long. It also comes in a gorgeous burgundy/oxblood too but I don't have any neutral leather/suede jackets so I thought this would be a perfect addition. Note: The jacket is currently sold out, it's that good & popular but keeping checking back because even if they don't get more for the sale they might get more throughout the season.

BP. Open Front Cardigan {Sale: $31.90 | After Sale: $48 | Size: Extra Small} This cardigan is the perfect boyfriend style piece so you are going to want to size down. I originally bought a small but it was still a little roomy under the arms so I exchanged it for an extra small.  However, I'm currently undecided on this. I bought the grey which will go with everything but I think it's leaving fibers/shedding on my clothes. I can't stand when clothes do that. I wear a lot of black and I already go through lint rollers like crazy. The last thing I want is an item shedding all over me. So I'm thinking of getting the olive green (shocker, right?!) and seeing if that is any better.

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings {Sale: $64.90 | After Sale: $98.00 | Size: Medium} I've had lots of leather leggings and the pair I wear the most are from Aritzia. I thought those were great until I tried on this pair. Serious, game changer.  The Spanx version is so much for comfortable and they are little higher waisted so they keep things tight and sucked in.

BP. Sleeveless Woven Shirtdress {Sale: $37.90 | After Sale: $58.00 | Size: Extra Small} This item is wayyyyy oversized. I mean borderline potato sack. However, I don't really have any intention of wearing it as a dress as I do a long open vest. Even in a extra small, I could still wear it as a dress but would need a belt or something to give it some shape.

Treasure&Bond 'Marko' Sneaker {Sale: $79.90 | After Sale: $119.95 | Size: 9} As soon as I saw these I knew I had to have them. I'm such a big fan of Converse so these dupes in a mix of leather & suede and even better, black & olive green was a no brainer. They are comfortable too. I felt like the 9 was a little roomy in the toe but the 8.5 was super snug. I'm usually an 8.5 in any sneaker style shoe but these didn't provide any wiggle room.

Leith Shawl Collar Cocoon Cardigan {Sale: $49.90 | After Sale: $74.00 | Size: Extra Small} This is another great layering sweater. It's really comfortable and warm. More importantly, I haven't noticed that it's shedding on my clothes. Again with this one, I bought the small but need to exchange it for an extra small. The shawl collar lends this cardigan to look a bit more relaxed and that's where a smaller size comes in handy. The small still looked more baggy than it did relaxed. Unfortunately, this sweater is back ordered until October. Although, you can still snag at the anniversary price by checking out my tip below.

AG Ankle Leggings '4 Year Sway' {Sale: $149.90 | After Sale: $225.00 | Size: 29} You know I love my distressed jeans. AG has really been killing the distressed jeans game this past year.  This legging style is like all my other skinny AG jeans so I ordered my usual size 28. They are snug. Black colored jeans tend to feel and fit a little different. However, since they were the legging style that I already own, I figured going with my normal size should be good.  I need to wear them a few more times around my house to see how much they might stretch.  However, they don't feel like they are going give especially around the waist. So I ordered a 29 and will see how they fit.

Converse Chuck II Mesh High Top Sneaker {Sale: $56.90 | After Sale: $84.95 | Size: 8.5} Well I already told you how much of Converse fan I am so I couldn't pass up a new pair of high tops for fall. These are the newer Chuck II version which are supposed to more comfy than the classic versions. These fit fit true-to-size and I have to say, are definitely comfy. I can't wait to bounce around the city in these.

Trouve Side Slit Sweater {Sale: $45.90 | After Sale: $69.00 | Size: Small} This is a cute basic black sweater. It comes in other colors but I went with the black (#basic). Because the sweater style is very straight and boxy I went with a small. So it's still a bit loose without looking like it's oversized.

BP. Striped Tee {Sale: $17.90 | After Sale: $28.00 | Size: Extra Small} This freaking' tee in an extra small just annoys me. Don't get me wrong I really love it since I bought both colors but I initially tried on the medium and ended with the extra small. So big and even with the extra small there is still room. The material is tad sheer especially on the white so if I'm wearing it on it's own (without any layering pieces over), I'll throw on this tank top underneath or this one. I prefer the Spanx tank top because the material is smooth and glossy (like a slip) so clothes don't stick to it.

BP. Plaid Tunic {Sale: $28.90 | After Sale: $44.00 | Size: Extra Small} I am so obsessed with this plaid shirt that I'm thinking I want the navy as well. Again, it's oversized and I had to size down to an extra small. Even in an extra small I can wear it open & unbuttoned or buttoned and there is still room.

Blank NYC Knit Drape Faux Leather Jacket {$64.90 | $98.00 | Size: Small} If you know me & my style, this is something I definitely couldn't pass up. I love anything drapey with a mix of leather. I love that this one is thicker for winter. I have found with the Blank NYC brand that I always have to go down a size. If there is one thing from the sale you should get, it's this. Seriously, you'll love it.

BP. Woven Twill Tunic {Sale: $31.90 | After Sale: $48.00 | Size: Extra Small} I bought this solely as a layering piece to wear over shirts or tied around the waist. I have so many plaid & camo print shirts like this that I've been wanted something in a solid color. This is just like the plaid shirt and runs large.

My overall thought on item sizing this year that everything seems to be oversized. Are they prepping us for all that holiday weight gain?! I think brands are changing up sizing to help make us feel better about ourselves. I'm seeing with all brands not just ones from Nordstrom. I say that because there is no way I'm an extra small in a lot of these items. I'm typically a small/medium and if I'm looking for something oversized I get a large so this XS business is a bit annoying as it makes hard to shop online. So be prepared to try on multiple sizes.

A few additional #NSale tips:

  • I just checked the #NSale this morning and it looks like they restocked some items but not others (like the Blank NYC Suede Moto Jacket). However, for items they have but don't have your size, buy it in whatever size they have to secure the anniversary sale pricing. You can then take it to your local Nordstrom and have them check availability at other stores during and after the sale. If they stock it after the sale, you can exchange it for the size you need and you'll still get that anniversary price. This might seem like a ton of hassle but it's an item you really want, it's totally worth it.
  • If you are in between sizes or unsure of how a larger or smaller version of the item will fit, don't return the size you have unless you know right off the bat it's way too small or large. For instance, with the AG Jeans, I'm holding on to the 28 until the 29 comes so I can compare their fit. It's easier to determine what size will work if have the smaller/larger one available to try on & compare. I like that reassurance knowing I chose the right size.

I would love to know what items you pick up from the #NSale.  Happy Friday & Happy Shopping.
