Red Accents + Catch Up

Hey friends! It’s been a bit of a whirlwind these past few weeks/month and I’ve just been so busy. Although, I’m not a fan of the word ‘busy’ because we all are busy and have stuff going on so I think whirlwind might sum it up pretty well. So how about we play a little catch up.

I was in Kansas last month with some of my girls from NRA Carry Guard Training to hang with Anna at her Dene Adams Ranch. It was so great to see Steff, Krystal, and Anna again. A few of the other girls were supposed to come but you know how life can be sometimes. We spent the weekend chatting and, of course, shooting some guns. Being at her house made me think about wanting to leave the city. Thinking of how much I could elevate my training if I could just walk out to my backyard and shoot is reason enough. Her house and land are beautiful.

Over Labor Day, or maybe I should just say on Labor Day, I flew out to Vegas for literally the day (barely 24 hours) to hang with my squad of badass women, Amy Robbins, Antonia Okafor, Kaya Jones, Joanna and meet a few new ones to add to the crew Tracy and Sarah Rodriguez. We were all there to shoot Kaya’s music video for her upcoming single Tonight that drops on Sept. 25. It was an intense day of hauling our luggage around from different desert locations to poolside and changing in between. But it was so much fun and I’m telling you this video is going to be epic. I feel so lucky to have found this group of women. I’ve never met such a supportive and inspiring group of ladies. A few of us bonded during our Dynamis Alliance course and the other’s we’ve met along the way and our squad is growing.

In between all of this, work, and trying to have a life I’ve been preparing to teach my first non-lethal self-defense tool seminar at NRA Carry Guard Expo this weekend. I’ve been busting my butt making sure that it is going to bring you valuable information and help become better prepared. Unfortunately, though they just announced that the expo has been cancelled due to Hurricane Florence. That’s a total bummer but it’s better that everyone is safe. They won’t be rescheduling it so you’ll have wait until the next one in 2019.

Next weekend I’ll be heading out to Chicago to meet up Amy as we are speaking at Amm-Con about podcasting. I’m excited about that and, more important, I’m excited to get in a little fun. I also met with Time Magazine last week for a piece they are doing on guns and today’s post is what I wore. I have no idea how it’s going to turn out or how they plan to “spin” anything I said but we will see. They are interviewing people from all stances to get a picture on where people stand on guns. It sounds like a cool project and happy to keep spreading the message of women being self-reliant. It’s supposed to be ready sometime in October.

While it sucks that the NRA Carry Guard Expo got cancelled, I’m feel a slight relief because I get a few days back so I can work on SMT and Not Your Average Gun Girls because they have been neglected a bit over the last two weeks. I feel so guilty when I don’t get a post up on SMT for you guys but there are really only so many hours in a day. Some things gotta give and for now that’s been Instragram and getting posts out. However, I promise you I’ve got great posts lined up for the rest of year, some exciting things launching with SMT, more video style guides, and of course my holiday gift guide that continues to get bigger and better each year.

I just also want to thank you all for your continued support of SMT. I sincerely appreciate every like, comment, DM, and email. While I might not respond quickly (I will eventually LOL) but I truly value your time and appreciate that you take the time out of your day to see what’s going on here. I created SMT to inspire women to be self-reliant and it’s because of you that I continue to be motivated to bring you valuable content.

With so much going, the best way to make sure you don’t miss a beat is subscribe to SMT and you can do that on the homepage here.
