On The Line | No. 29

Happy Friday friends! How's your week been? I seriously feel like a broken record lately here on SMT but I've been a bit slacking on the blog front. I've got so many posts in my brain and I'm just running short on finding the time to draft and prep them. All things you've asked for and/or inquired about so I'm sorry for the laziness. I don't really have any great excuses just life. We had a few busy (and fun) weekends and then I wasn't feeling well blah blah...you know how it goes. I do have a more Girl Meets Gun, Preparedness, and Style Me Concealed posts coming as well as all the other stuff. I promise.

What do you think of today's On The Line words of wisdom?

No One's Life is As Perfect As Their Instagram Feed. Okay so not really any words of wisdom today just more a statement of fact. I hadn't picked my quote for this week yet and I usually like to pick something that represents things or thoughts that have been going on in my life as of late. However, I read a pretty interesting article (shared below) that as a blogger/'grammer wasn't really that shocking to me as I know how it all works "behind the curtain" so-to-speak. However, one thing did annoy me. The jist of the article was if a normal guy could easily become an instagram influencer. He teamed up with some stylists, a social media firm, and a photographer that basically laid out what he would need to do to gain a decent following and become an influencer in a month. It's a great article and if you're not in the blogging/'gramming world, it will definitely open your eyes. The thing in the article that shocked me was that he bought stock lifestyle images to post to his feed as if here were doing those things. For instance a cup of coffee he posted, was basically a lie. He was never at the coffee shop. I don't care that he bought stock images. Afterall, he was doing all this for the article. However, what annoys me is that it was a promotion of a lie. It's one thing to go get coffee, take a photo, and post it later but to have not even step foot in the coffee shop is another. And now I have to question if that photo of someones perfect avo toast was even theirs to begin with?! I mean I know people/accounts like this, they buy followers/likes (my friend Ashley wrote a great post about buying likes/followers), they don't drink coffee yet they post endless photos about how "they are going on cup number three", and basically are doing it for the 'gram. When in the end it's lies and bullshit. There is no authenticity in what they are posting. I mean I get it, it's the power the internet and social media. You can be whatever version of yourself or portray whatever lifestyle you want based on some photos. Don't get me wrong, I want a nice looking feed, I want my photos to be well composed, have good light, and get that double-tap but you better believe I'm drinking that coffee and eating that food. Albeit a little colder than when it first came out ;) So I realized I'm just ranting now so let me wrap this up. I think in this digital age where the social media market is so saturated a lot of us bloggers share this frustration. We want authenticity, real engagement, and a connection to our followers. Isn't that also want we want in life...connection with people?! In the end what I'm trying to say is, no one's life is that perfect or that well curated. So long as you are doing you and are happy with it, that's all the matters.

Around The Web

The internet is full of awesome, beautiful, and strange things; wouldn't you agree? I'm pulling my favs and sharing them with you.  I've rounded up my top loved links from stories, recipes, style, animal cuteness...basically anything and everything. Some old, some new, some you may have already seen but nonetheless something to take your mind off that daily grind.  So grab your cup of coffee or cocktail (it's never to early) and click away. Cheers.

  • {Style} I just bought this Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag and it's on major sale. The neutral taupe will be go with everything.

  • {Style} I'm still sharing this because it's such a great deal. Modern Vice has extended cyber monday and are still offering 50% off their entire site. That deal is AMAZING. Their boots are AMAZING. Use code "CYBER" to take advantage. My favorite pair are the Jetts (worn here, here, here, & here).
