Menswear Inspired

I’ve been on the hunt for a good menswear style tweed-esque blazer for a few seasons. I love the structured and polished look of them as well as the fact that they can easily be made more feminine or masculine depending on how you style it. Menswear blazers tend to have a little bit more of a boxy look, well actually, I feel like all blazers or light “jackets” have become more and more boxy the last few years, but that’s where a tailor comes in. Don’t discredit the cost of a tailor - a good tailor can change how a garment fits on you. And how it fits makes all the difference. I know people who find items that are on sale two sizes too big for them and then take them to a tailor. I just stick to basic alterations to make things fit my body better. I’m still on the fence on if I want to get this one taken in on the sides a little bit to help give it some shape. I usually like to wear my items a few times to get a sense of how they feel, fit, and how I like them on before taking them to a tailor.

When it comes to blazers, I have a good mix of high-end and low-end styles in terms of quality. This style is so classic and timeless so I was okay spending a little more money. I like to look at a blazer like this one as a wardrobe essential. A staple in my closet that I’ll be able to wear all season long for many, many years to come so investing a little bit more on something of higher quality is worth it to me. It’s one of the give and takes you have to make when shopping. Invest in the staples and save on the basics. I have countless black blazers and only one of them is my good quality blazer. The others are inexpensive from fast-fashion brands. They can be worn into the ground, spilled on, or whatever and I’m fine with that. When the liners (if they even have them) start ripping or seams start coming apart, I’m not upset that I wasted money because I knew what I was getting by purchasing a lower quality item.
